Bean Meeting 12/12/06

Present: Brodie, Aaron, Peero, Rae, Eco Paul

Deadlines

  • Before people go back to Uni – can release at uni and people won’t be too busy
  • 26th February on streets. 19th to printer. 1st Feb submission

Articles

  • Progress on unfinished articles? Rae, Brodie, Jac, Juliet, Eco Paul. Peero’s article and photos ready. Brodie will do recipes relevant to what’s in Jac’s permaculture article. Action: Rae will pass photo CD for Aaron to put into correct format
  • Paul has written G20 article. Will have regular column as well
  • Nathaniel is keen to help with layout - teaching or doing. Jac wants to do something but not all, doesn’t have time to be taught. Peero commits to helping with layout. Eco Paul will help as well. Action: Peero will contact Nathaniel to check what level of involvement he’s available for.
  • Peero suggestion: take photo/vox pop of people in vegetarian restaurants and say why they like that one.
  • Paul’s suggestion: charging for zine may add value to product itself. Have section/details for people to send donations. Become patrons? Place with editorial/official section.
  • Carlie and Luke’s blog – next edition. Maybe have short prelude in 1st edition? Action: Ask them on weekend what they’d like to contribute

Fundraising

  • Advice from Yoriko – The Spot may support us on a weeknight. Consider paying for drawcard bands and charging more to get in
  • Make it a pre-launch party. Can have on weeknight during holidays because people will be more available. 25th January if possible, otherwise Thurs 1st Feb.

Venues: The Spot, Brunswick Club, Peero’s friend Rob has garage on Grattan st but no music stage, Noise Bar, Bar 303, Don’t tell Tom. PA’s is no longer free – minimum $450/night. Paul’s landlord has rent-a-stage business. Aaron will chase venues – calling. Action: Rae will check Funkathon minutes and previous Bean minutes to make list of venues in order of preference. Will also email previous bands and check that Russell is still available.

  • Bands: Aaron has contacts for backup quality music. Lachlan/Evan good DJ contact. No big speeches!
  • Raffle raised $166.55
  • Film night: couple of weeks after out. Nova city and Glen Waverley – more fun film. Swanston st COC could be a place for DVD/doco night. Old film places at Yarraville, Westgarth. Start organizing in Jan.

Editorial process

  • Probably not an issue right now, but should agree on a word limit.
